St. Canice's Primary School, Feeny

St. Canice’s P.S. Feeny are awarded PATHS® Model School Status

12th Dec 2018

St. Canice’s P., Feeny is one of only nine schools in N.I. to be awarded PATHS® Model School Status. The school held a special assembly performed by the Primary 4s for our PATHS Visitors to mark the occasion.  This award has been achieved as a result of a lot of hard work from pupils and teachers.  The school has adopted a whole school approach to PATHS® which extends from the classroom to the playground.  PATHS® helps the children to solve problems, manage their emotions, learn about their feelings and build friendships.

“St. Canices Primary School are in their fourth year of implementing The PATHS® Programme for Schools (NI Version) and have received the support of Barnardo’s to deliver the programme. Staff are extremely dedicated to the support of children’s emotional health and well-being and provide high quality PATHS® lessons. The school have worked hard to develop the PATHS® themes throughout the school day, and beyond.  Additional staff have been trained and the school have engaged parents through Information Sessions, newsletters and assemblies. PATHS® Pals were trained to support the learning on the playground and this has been very successful. This whole-school approach was recently recognised at Barnardo’s and PATHS® UK Conference, which was held in Scotland in June.  At this event, St. Canice’s PS were awarded PATHS® Model School Status, an award certified by PATHS® Education Worldwide, and which recognises high-quality implementation of the programme. The PATHS® Team are extremely proud that the outstanding work of St. Canice’s Primary School has been recognised in this way, and we look forward to continuing to support St. Canice’s PS with PATHS® in the future.”  Mairead Ewart, PATHS® Programme Manager, Barnardo’s Northern Ireland.

The Principal and Vice-Principal would like to thank the parents, pupils and staff for their commitment in developing this programme.
