Strike Action - Thursday 18 January

11th Jan 2024

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you may be aware trade unions representing all of our teaching staff have declared ‘strike’ action which will take place on Thursday 18 January for a full day.  Trade unions have asked their members to withdraw from labour on Thursday 18 January for the full day. This is a national dispute relating to pay between the unions and the government.

I regret having to inform you that since a significant number of our staff will be taking part in this industrial action, and in consultation with our Board of Governors, we have made the decision that our school will be closed to pupils on Thursday 18 January for the full day.

This decision has been taken in light of our reduced capacity to safely supervise and provide for all pupils including those with additional needs. It is not lawful for the school to use classroom assistants and/or supply teachers to cover the work of colleagues who are absent due to the strike, and so the challenge to maintain a normal, and safe, school day is significant.

I am aware that school closures inconvenience parents and carers, and so, am writing to give you as much advance notice as possible so that you can make the necessary arrangements for your child(ren).

As ever, thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Fiona McCann

Principal
